Cambridge - 1 day

Cambridge is one of the most famous University cities in the world, a group of over 30 individual colleges with medieval buildings of stone, timber and brick, clad in ivy and built around quiet courtyards and cloisters.

The walking tour of this beautiful city will reveal many of its oldest colleges such as Peterhouse, St Catherine's, Clare, Corpus Christi, Gonville and Caius, Trinity, St John's and the magnificent King's College with its impressive chapel. Other colleges outside of the walking tour can be seen during free time such as Christ's, Jesus, Magdalene and Emanuel (alma mater of John Harvard, founder of the American university that takes his name).

Other well known sights include the Mathmatical Bridge at Queen's College, Senate House - where students graduate, the River Cam - busy with punts and rowing boats, the church of the Holy Sepulchre - the famous round church, one of only four in the country, Parker's Piece and Great St Mary's where entrance is included to the tower for great views over the University and the low lying meadowland of Cambridgeshire and the Fens.

The guided tour will reveal the history of both the university and the city of Cambridge, a city that dates back to pre-Roman times, making it an older settlement, albeit not an older university, to it's great rival Oxford.

During your free time in the afternoon there will be time for lunch and a chance to try punting on the river. If you aren't happy to operate the pole yourself you can hire someone to punt for you!! One other 'must see' is the outstanding Fitzwilliam Museum with free entrance and historic displays of antiquity on several floors.
