Greenwich is the world's focal point for synchronisation of time, to Greenwich Mean Time. It is an old historic suburb of east London once the centre of Britain's powerful navy at the time of Britain's maritime might. Canterbury is the Seat of the Church of England, in medieval times the greatest place of pilgrimmage in Europe.

Plan for the day
The tour begins in the morning in Greenwich at The Royal Observatory. Stand straddling the Meridian Line with one foot in the eastern hemisphere (entry fee not included), the other in the west. After exploring the Observatory's exhibition on 'Time', why not browse the market stalls of Greenwich Market or amble around the world's largest museum about the seas - The National Maritime Museum. At lunchtime we trace the footsteps of Chaucer's pilgrims on their journey to Canterbury immortalised in his Canterbury Tales. On arrival in Canterbury join your guide for a walking tour of the city before exploring the quaint medieval streets and the fabulous cathedral. Back to Cambridge mid-evening.
