This was my fifth tour with International Friends, and I still have no complaints! I did the Oxford, Cotswolds, and Stratford tour with David, who was superb, as usual. We had some trouble with... Show All »

Starting out at the British Museum we take a short walk through London's vibrant Theatreland to Covent Garden, once home to a bustling fruit and flower market, and made famous by George Bernard Shaw in Pygmalion. Here in Wellington Street, Dickens edited All the Year Round, the magazine he founded, and from his window observed many characters that would manifest in various forms in his later works.

Onwards to Portsmouth Street to the Old Curiosity Shop which has long claimed to be the very same shop as that in the adventures of Little Nell.
We then thread our way through the Victorian buildings of the Inns of Court past the small squares and offices of the law community and where Dickens worked for Ellis and Blackmore at Holborn Court. Crossing Sweeney Todd's Fleet Street and passing the Royal Courts of Justice we glance across the road to Samuel Johnson's statue and wander along Chancery Lane to the site of Furnival's Inn, Dickens' former home.
