Colchester - 1 day

Once the Roman capital of Britain, Colchester was famously raised to the ground by Boudicca, warrior queen of the Iceni tribe. She slaughtered over thirty thousand Roman citizens in revenge for betrayal and rape of her daughters.

The guided walk will explore the history of Colchester from Roman times to the present day as one of England's most important garrison towns and home to Essex University. Entrance is included to Colchester Castle dating back to the medieval period and now an outstanding local history museum re-emphasising some of the history revealed on the tour.

During your free time you can take lunch, explore some original Tudor and Georgian architecture or spend time shopping in a typical English city centre. There will be plenty of time to visit the Castle Museum or spend time in the gardens of Castle Park.
