The Medieval cinque port of Hastings is steeped in history. It can trace its roots back to Roman times, through to the Norman invasion (when William the Conqueror made his headquarters in Hastings castle on his arrival in England) on to the Middle Ages and beyong when it became a major fishing port (it still boasts the largest beach based fishing fleet iin England). Finally up to Victorian times when it became one of the South coasts most fashionable resorts.

Your guided walk will take in all the major sights and attractions of modern day Hastings ranging from the elegant Georgian terrace of Pelham Crescent, the ruins of the Norman castle (built after William defeated the Saxon king Harold at nearby Senlac Hill). The Smugglers Adventure based in caves deep in the heart of Hastings west hill (the entrance is included), down into the old town for the shipwreck and coastal heritage centre and the Fisherman's museum. Finally on to the beach with its fishing fleet and the famous net shops (the only examples in Southern England).

After your guided walk, which will detail the history of Hastings right through from Roman times to the modern day.
