We begin our walk in charming Bloomsbury, with its elegant residential squares, location of the world famous British Museum, the setting for Vanity Fair and the childhood home of the Darling family, long before they encountered Peter Pan. We will learn of the Bloomsbury Group, of Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes and E.M. Forster and of their profound effects on literature, art and economics.Crossing Tottenham Court Road, we explore the lively West End as we stroll down Shaftesbury Avenue, to the Cambridge Circus. Along here Brian Epstein and the Beatles entertained at the Saville, crowds applauded at the Palace to the 'Sound of Music' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. We move through lively Soho and Leicester Square home to many a world movie premiere on our way to Covent Garden and the street performers.
Amongst the colourful entertainment of Covent Garden's historic piazza you could almost see the ghost of Eliza Doolittle selling flowers in front of St Paul's church. From here we head south towards the River Thames, into the grand courtyard of Somerset House and learn of the fate of the Tudor Regent, Edward Seymour and the unhappy years of The Virgin Queen in her days as a princess. We continue eastwards along Strand to the imposing gothic of the Royal Courts of Justice and the Church of the Knights Templar, before ending our walk in an historic London Pub on Sweeney Todd's Fleet Street.
