We start our journey of discovery at Queensway tube station and head off to the sprawling parkland known as Kensington Gardens. Once the private gardens of Kensington Palace, this public park was where JM Barrie spent a lot of his time, giving him the inspiration for his book The Little White Bird which he set here. His most well known work, Peter Pan, is represented by the Peter Pan statue here in the gardens.
Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens was a prequel to the more famous adventures in Neverland and it is therefore appropriate that we enjoy the first part of the tour here. Part of the movie Finding Neverland was also filmed here. A short walk away is the author's home on Bayswater Road which we see from outside. It was here that Barrie first entertained the Llewelyn boys with the stories of the boy who never grew up. We then jump on the tube to Holborn to visit Great Ormond Street Hospital. Barrie left the rights to his works here in 1929 and within the building is the Hospital Museum containing memorabilia and artifacts related to JM Barrie and Peter Pan. Unfortunately the Museum is not open Sunday 26th or Monday 27th. A Peter Pan and Tinkerbelll staue in bronze stands outside.
A short walk away is Bloomsbury Square where the Darling family lived. This part of London, with elegant Georgian Squares and Terraces, is forever linked with art and literature, thanks to the Bloomsbury Group A short stroll down St Martin's Lane brings us to the Duke of York's Theatre where Peter Pan made its stage debut in 1904. It is here next to Trafalgar Square that we end the tour.
Please note - The price you are paying is for a guided walking tour. No entries or tube tickets are included on this walk.
