This was my fifth tour with International Friends, and I still have no complaints! I did the Oxford, Cotswolds, and Stratford tour with David, who was superb, as usual. We had some trouble with... Show All »

The most anticipated new attraction of the year, and one that everybody is talking about, is the Harry Potter Studio Tour in the former stage buildings at Leavesden, just a short drive north of London. What could be more 'spellbinding' than walking through Hogwart's Great Hall and visiting Dumbledore's office then taking a walk down the real Diagon Alley. This is all made possible by taking a trip out to this stunning exhibition. The Warner Brother's studios at Leavesden are housed in a former aircraft assembly plant left over from World War II and contain about half a million square feet of indoor space. Starting with the James Bond film Goldeneye in 1995 several major films have been shot here but by far the most famous are all eight of the Harry Potter movies. As from this year, 2012, Warner Brothers have opened up a huge section of the buildings and given visitors the chance to walk right into world of Hogwart's and the Ministry of Magic. All the major sets are here and countless props along with costumes and and exhibits such as Harry's Nimbus 2000 and Hagrid's motorbike. An enchanting and exciting way to spend the first part of the day.

Then come with us in the afternoon over to nearby Great Missenden to see the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre where we can enter the author's writing hut and see the inspiration for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. The hut contains original fixtures and fittings as well as various objects that gave the author his inspirations. Look out for his "ideas book" and original drafts of his work. The exhibitions are housed in an old coaching inn that has been maintained by the Dahl family and located in the very village the author called home.
