Enjoy a cruise transfer with a tour of the Eternal City, delving into antiquity and visiting Rome's iconic and ancient sites such as the Colosseum, Via Sacra and the Roman Forum. Using smaller, luxury vehicles you will be offered a more personalised tour with vehicles that can go where larger buses are not permitted, allowing you to see more with less walking.
This service is available on all dates (April to November) when Royal Caribbean, NCL, Oceania, Princess & Celebrity are starting or ending a cruise at Civitavecchia.
Your driver/guide will be waiting for you at the cruise port, easily identified with contact number and sign with your name.
To start the tour you will be taken to Oppian Hill. One of the famous seven hills of Rome and once the site of a former palace of Emperor Nero, we meet the guide and overlook the spectacular Colosseum. From here we descend to our special Skip the Line Special Access entrance to the Colosseum. Once inside, your expert guide will talk you through the bloody past of this amphitheatre with tales of gladiators, mock sea battles and executions. The enormity of it's size and the events that went on here is truly awe inspiring. Take a walk around the galleries, cast your mind back to a distant past, then look at the structure again and see how it resembles our modern sports stadiums.
After a photo stop at the Arch of Constantine, built in 312AD and an influence on many of the world's far later triumphal arches, you will be taken to Palatine Hill where the ruins of the Imperial Palace lie elevated above the Colosseum and here an uninterrupted view over the ancient remains of the city awaits. Look down upon the Roman Forum and Nero's Circus Maximus, a huge chariot racing stadium that could accommodate over 150,000 spectators.
The last stop on this tour is a walk along the Via Sacra (or Sacred Way), the main artery that linked the Colosseum to Capitoline Hill. It runs through the heart of the Roman Forum, passing the site of a wealth of important buildings and was used in the days of antiquity for a whole host of festivals and triumphal processions. Perhaps, most important of all is the site of the tomb of Julius Caesar in the Temple that bears his name, and where even today visitors lay flowers and offerings on the dusty stone that marks his resting place. After an absorbing and eye opening tour of Ancient Rome your guide will take you back to your luxury minivan, where your driver will be waiting to take you directly to your hotel.

I have sightseeing included in my transfer – do I need to book entry?
We have various options available, some with entry included and some where entry is an ‘Optional Extra’. If the entry is included this will be made clear on the itinerary page. Where entry is an ‘Optional Extra’ this will also be made clear on the itinerary, and the entries will be available to book in the ‘Book this Tour’ box when selecting your date, number of passengers etc. If entry is included or you have added it as extra then you do not need to contact the attraction and book entry. You will not need separate entry tickets to the attraction, the guide will manage your entry on the day. If you know you want to visit an attraction we always advise you add the tickets on at time of booking your transfer (if entry is optional). We cannot guarantee entry for passengers to the attractions that have not pre-booked and paid.
