A wonderful combination greets you on this tour as we blend the refined elegance of the city of Bath with the natural charm of the Cotswold Hills and it's delightful villages.
After meeting up with your friendly team of tour driver and knowledgeable guide we begin our journey into limestone country with gently rolling hills and honey-coloured cottages. We edge westwards into Mendip Hills down the valley road into Bath, a city that has welcomed tourists for over two thousand years owing to its hot thermal springs that attracted both Celtic Kings and a while later, Roman aristocracy. On arival there will be a full tour followed by optional entry to The Roman Baths, a testament to the cult of Sulis Minerva, both a God of healing and of the underworld. Walk along the original Roman paving, admire the steaming baths and see the ruins of the temple.
The popularity of the city peaked again in the 18th century as the wealthy Georgian elite travelled from London to take the waters and cure themselves of rheumatic diseases and gout. Elegant squares and terraces sprung up around the outlying hills, expanding Bath into a maze of golden stone houses in the Classical style with crescents and circuses overlooking the River Avon. The city is also home to the Jane Austen Centre, offering you a window into how it would have been to have lived in Regency times.
After a full tour of the city and some free time we depart for The Cotswolds and pass through some delightful hamlets and villages with a lunch break in Lacock. We step back in time to a place that has hardly changed in 400 years. Now owned by the National Trust, Lacock is so perfectly preserved that it is no stranger to film and TV productions. Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, Cranford, Pride and Prejudice have all had scenes filmed here and you will be given an eye-opening guided walk of the village, including it's ancient Tithe Barn and lock-up after a delicious homemade lunch at the ancient George Inn. *Please note that this is subject to availability and an alternative venue may be used*
After our post lunch stroll we will make our journey onwards to your chosen destination of Heathrow airport or central London hotels.
Joining Procedure At Southampton
Nearly all cruises at Southampton arrive between 05:00 and 06:00 in the morning with disembarkation starting around 07:00. Your guide will meet you at the terminal building exit from 08:00. We plan to leave Southampton by 08:30.
There are 4 cruise terminals at Southampton, all slightly different but you will have a typical walk of about 75 yards to the tour bus where the driver will load your luggage into the hold. That is the last time you will see your luggage until you get to London.
In the unlikely event your ship is delayed into port, we will delay our departure time accordingly (applicable only to the listed ships we service). For all delayed ship arrivals we will aim to leave at the latest one hour after docking (earlier if possible). On dates when this service is collecting from 2 or more ships and one ship is late, a transfer service will be provided for these customers to 'catch up' with the tour.
Arrival in London & Heathrow
