Travel with us from London across the channel and through the Low Countries to Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, with its beautiful canals and narrow gabled houses. Relax and enjoy the fun way of life this city proudly proclaims to the world. After a delightful cruise along the canals on our guided boat tour you will check in to your accommodation. Your guide will then offer a walking tour and after you will have time explore on foot other parts of the city, including the old fortifications and the Red Light District before heading out for a night in the bright lights and bars of Amsterdam!
After breakfast on our second day we board our coach and head into the lush green Dutch countryside passing historic windmills and vast tracts of land reclaimed from the ocean known as Polders. We visit a traditional cheese maker and sample the local produce then see how the famous wooden shoes or 'clogs' are made. At Zaanse Schans we visit a working Dutch museum with fascinating collection of wooden houses, farms and windmills. On our way back into Amsterdam we head back into the city centre with optional drop off locations such as the Anne Frank House or the Vincent Van Gogh museum or simply back to the hotel. Pre-booking is essential for the Anne Frank house and is recommended for the Van Gogh gallery.
The afternoon and evening is free for you to explore the many attractions, activities, restaurants and bars.
On our third day we check out after breakfast our weekend in Amsterdam ends, and we head to Belgium to visit the beautiful city of Bruges. We enjoy a guided walk through its cobble stone streets and timber framed buildings. Visit the famous chocolate shops, see traditional lace making, climb the 366 steps up to the Belfry, sample some of the world renowned Belgian beer or just relax next to one of the many canals.
After a visit to Bruges, our weekend break ends, and we begin the journey back to London through France and via the English Channel!
