Downton Abbey film; what we know so far
It's official! The Downton Abbey gang are returning - and not for another series, but a Downton Abbey film! We first heard the news on the 13th July last year when the shows official Facebook page posted, and since then we kep our eyes peeled for every press and trailer release. Now we have some facts, we have put together this list of everything that you need to know about the upcoming Downton Abbey film!
Who's coming back?
It's been rumoured that many of the original cast will retrun for the movie, including Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Crawley, Laura Carmichael as Lady Edith Crawley, Joanne Froggatt as Anna Bates, Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley and Elizabeth McGovern as Cora Crawley. Maggie Smith is also set to return as Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham.
What's the release date?
13th September in the UK, and a week later on the 20th September in the USA. Filming has already wrapped on the Downton Abbey movie, so it would seem that everything is on track for the release date.
What's the film about?
We finally know what the plot of the new Downton Abbey movie will be. Thanks to the new trailer (the video on this page), we know that the film will centre around the Crawleys getting a visit from the Royal Family. This includes King George V and Queen Mary, who are the grandparents of our current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. Set in 1927, the family are living a more modest life, and have far less fancy stuff to offer the royals, mainly due to the end of World War I and the Great Depression. There's only one man that can ensure the royal visit goes swimmingly, but will Carson accept their low wages? We shall see!
