Following the talk which will take place in the Saloon, the heart of the Castle, guests have the chance to enjoy a guided tour both to explore the works of art, but also some of the key Downton Abbey filming locations, used both in the Downton Abbey TV series and recent film. Weather permitting, guides at Highclere Castle with knowledge of the Gardens will also be available to lead you through the Monks' Garden, Secret Garden and into the Wood of Goodwill. Stroll amongst the azalea beds in Highclere's Gardens, covered in colour and scent, with cherry trees, tulips and early scented shrubs.
We then continue our day trip through to the Cotswolds region, to explore some of the other Downton Abbey filming locations, visiting Cogges Manor Farm - Yew Tree Farm in the Downton Abbey series, where Lady Edith's daughter Marigold was raised by the Drewe family. Visit the kitchens, see the farmyard and watch a special presentation video about the farm's role in the television series.
We will also stop in delightful Shilton with its shallow ford, used in Series Two, and the village of Swinbrook where Lady Sybil and Tom Branson spent the night on their aborted elopement. We'll also enjoy a stop at Bampton to see St Mary's church, seen as St Michael's in Downton Abbey. Scene of weddings, a funeral or two and a jilting! On the guided tour of Bampton, you'll also see the Cottage Hospital and Mrs Crawley's house, visit the village green, post office and The Grantham Arms pub.

"Each year I consider a different theme around Highclere, its landscape, the stories and works of art. In May 2020, I thought it would be interesting and fun to share what life was and is like to live in a Castle, with the talks being around the theme of how to decorate a family home which resonates with history, how to live with a film crew, how we plan and prepare the Castle and the Gardens and how the Castle has welcomed Royalty and statesmen and entertained over the years” - Lady Carnarvon
